tl xpress – building tool
frequently asked questions (faq)

> What does TL Xpress do?

TL Xpress is a FREE add-in for Autodesk Revit to perform the automatic building of Architecture models by using Rooms delimited by Room Separation Lines and organized as an integrated level (or part of a level) of a conceptual building. By using these Rooms, the user can perform the automatic application of wall finishes and insertion of frames; optional and automatic join of wall, floor and ceiling (post-Revit 2021) elements; optional and automatic creation of wall parts. Basically, it is a way to run a streamlined single execution of several commands of the TL Elements application.

> Which version of Revit should I run to use TL Xpress?

TL Xpress is compatible with versions 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 of Autodesk Revit, running on Windows 10 or 11, with .NET Framework 4.8 runtime installed.

> What languages is TL Xpress available in?

English and Portuguese-BR. English is the default language for the application. However, if you run Revit in the Portuguese-BR language, TL Xpress will run in Portuguese-BR as well.

> What do I need in order to use TL Xpress?

In order to use TL Xpress, you will need to have an account at the Autodesk App Store, download the installer of the application and run it to install the extensions for the desired Revit versions. Once installed, the add-in can be accessed at the "eTLipse" tab at the Revit ribbon.

> Do I need a paid license to use TL Xpress?

No. TL Xpress can be acquired totally for FREE and no paid subscription is required to use it.

> I already own/use a TL Elements license. Would I get any benefit from installing the free version of TL Xpress?

No. TL Elements contains a fully functional version of TL Xpress as one of its features. You, therefore, already have the same functionalities in the TL Elements application.

> Can I use DWG/AutoCAD lines as reference to create walls?

Taking DWG/AutoCAD lines as reference is currently not possible, because, in order to achieve the expected creation of walls, the Revit Rooms should be already placed in the project, and, to place them, you will need Room Separation Lines as separators. But we surely look forward to implement the use of DWG/AutoCAD lines as reference at one point to expand the functionalities of our tool.

> Can I apply finishes, create floors/ceilings or insert doors/windows to my existing walls in the project? Can I start any of these processes with walls already instantiated in the project?

In order to filter/pick walls already instantiated in the project and apply finishes or use them for floor and ceiling creation or frames insertion, you will need to use the TL Walls or the TL Frames command from our complete tool for Architecture modelling in Revit, TL Elements. In TL Xpress it is only possible to start the process by using Rooms delimited by Room Separation Lines.

> Regarding the insertion of finishes to walls: can TL Xpress insert new walls or just add new layers as new finishes to existing walls?

TL Xpress can create wall finishes in both ways: multiple walls or compound walls. In the Multiple Walls mode, TL Xpress will insert new walls as finishes to the core walls. In the Compound Walls mode, TL Xpress will insert new layers to existing types of compound walls (generating new types). You can learn more about these two construction modes in the TL Xpress guide, available here.

> I do not know how to use the add-in. I am overwhelmed by the amount of features in the User Interface. Where can I understand it and get help?

In the TL Xpress user interface you can hover your mouse cursor over any of the buttons and boxes to open a tooltip that explains the feature they set or execute. Also, you can always refer to the topics of our detailed guides for each main feature of the application. You can find them here.
